The summer anime season is upon us! After being treated to plenty of excellent slice-of-life anime this past spring, it looks like my own viewing schedule for summer will be lighter considering there are less than a dozen series I plan to watch this summer.
Am looking forward the most to “Amanchu!”, the anime adaptation of Kozue Amano’s enchanting slice-of-life manga. The promotional video looked absolutely gorgeous, have high expectations of this anime and I sincerely hope the studio and director Junichi Satou will gift us another true jewel like “Aria” and “Tamayura”.
Adored the first “Love Live!” anime, it was a lively, fun idol series, hence am curious to discover “Love Live! Sunshine!!”, the next incarnation of the school idol project that focuses on nine new girls, who form their own idol group named Aquors.
Of course, can’t miss “Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei”, the fourth season of the magical girl spin-off from the “Fate/stay night” franchise focused on Illya that enjoys much success thanks to its formula of showcasing irresistibly cute magical girl loli’s engaging in silly shenanigans, epic magical girl battles and daring ecchi yuri fanservice.
Next to “Amanchu!”, there’s but a few obvious slice-of-life series that stood out in the summer season line-up for me, “Amaama to Inazuma” is such a show that seems like it could be an enchanting slice-of-life comedy. The story sounds like it might be a mix of elements seen in “Koufuku Graffiti”, “Himouto! Umaru-chan” or “Usagi Drop”.
Am quite curious about “Kono Bijutsu-bu ni wa Mondai ga Aru!”. Although it is labelled as a school comedy, wonder if it this anime focused on the daily events at a school art club and its quirky members will be akin to “Sketchbook ~full color’S~” or similar series. The promotional video didn’t particularly reveal much, but will nonetheless check it out.
It’s been a while since I last enjoyed a good workplace-centric anime comedy like “Servant x Service”, so am really looking forward to “New Game!”. Will also give “ReLIFE” a try, its core plot of a disillusioned, unemployed guy in his late twenties getting the opportunity to relive his school years and do things over sounds like it could be interesting.
Considering the setting and subject matter are entirely different, don’t know how similar in tone “Handa-kun” will be to “Barakamon”, which was a lovely, heartwarming slice-of-life comedy. Instead, wonder it might be more an oddball school comedy like “Daily Lives of High School Boys” or “Sakamoto Desu Ga?”.
Although the promotional video suggests it will be a sweet romantic comedy, just might give “Momokuri” a try as the story’s protagonists look like a cute couple who have enough quirky character traits to make for a fun story.
Which anime are you watching this summer?
