Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka??

The original “ご注文はうさぎですか?” four-panel manga by Koi already spawned a first anime adaptation “Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka?” that aired last year and enchanted viewers with a lovely slice-of-life tale of irresistibly cute girls going about their daily lives in a rustic town.

Loved that first season, for me Gochiusa is undoubtedly one of the best anime in the slice-of-life genre, I consider it to be even better than “Kiniro Mosaic”, “Wakaba*Girl” or “A-Channel”. Hence, am overjoyed we now get a second season of this terrific anime.

While many slice-of-life shows also have elements of other genres which they may gravitate more towards, such as comedy or yuri for example, “Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka??” is pure slice-of-life. While it does have its fair share of comedy or heartwarming moments, the story is really all about these girls’ daily lives of working part time at different cafés and their friendship.

Although the franchise does have a talking rabbit gimmick, and the characters’ names may seem rather silly when one realizes they’re coffee related or other beverage related, this doesn’t really detract from the viewing experience or from enjoying the overall story. The rabbits in Gochiusa are not unlike the cat mascot characters in “Aria” or “Tamayura”.

Am glad that all voice talents reprise their roles from the first season and that the same creative team returns, with studio White Fox again responsible for the animation. Thanks to this there does not seem to be any visual difference between the animation of the first and second seasons, the animation in the opening episode of this second season was excellent.

While I do adore “Yuru Yuri” and am optimistic about several other anime this autumn, there’s no doubt that “Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka??” will the best show of the season for me.
You can watch “Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka??” on Crunchyroll.
