Caught the first two episodes of “Gundam: G no Reconguista” or “G-Reco”, the new Gundam anime, created to celebrate 35 years of the renowned franchise.
Unfortunately was sorely disappointed by the opening episodes of “Gundam: G no Reconguista” which is a let down in every aspect, from its characters to the animation quality, writing, scene pacing and dialogue.
Was not especially impressed by the mecha designs shown in the promotional video and after seeing the first episodes, cannot be anything but harsh and say that most mecha designs shown in “G-Reco” are only fit for a children’s show and not a serious Gundam anime.
The animation quality by studio Sunrise leaves much to be desired too, especially when compared to their work on “Gundam Unicorn”, “Kakumeiki Valvrave” or non-mecha shows like “Love Live!”.
Mecha design style and animation quality aside, what really ruins this series for me personally is the horrible writing and characters, especially the character’s dialogue and behavior which completely lacks basic common sense.
The main characters’ actions seem to be haphazardly strung together to drive the story along with total disregard if what they say and do makes any sense or even seems logical. While suspension of disbelief is required when watching such fiction to accept suspiciously convenient events occur to drive the plot and story forward, “Gundam: G no Reconguista” is an example where the various characters their every uttering or action is completely ridiculous when looking it at them with common sense.
Hence, even though only two episodes have aired I cannot recommend “Gundam: G no Reconguista” to anyone.
