Anime fall season 2014

Am curious to discover what the new anime season will bring us. Going through the fall series line up, there are about a dozen new shows that seem interesting to watch. Will also keep on watching several anime that are continuing, like “Yama no Susume Second Season” and “Sword Art Online II”.

Was pleasantly surprised this past season that Crunchyroll offered most of the series I was following on its simulcast online streaming service. Great to see more anime become available for European fans and hope they will offer lots of the new autumn anime in their catalog.

Looking forward to “Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru”, an original anime project by Studio Gokumi. Based on its promotional videos looks like it will be a lovely slice-of-life series with some supernatural elements, perhaps not unlike “Kamichu!” or “Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha”.

There’s two upcoming workplace centric comedy series centred around the mange and anime industry that am keen on checking out, “Denkigai no Honya-san” and “SHIROBAKO”.

An anime original project by PA Works, “SHIROBAKO” is all about the daily lives of several young women who work in in the anime industry in key functions such as voice actress, animation production or story writing. Wonder if this workplace comedy will be similar to “Working!!” or “Koe de Oshigoto”.

“Denkigai no Honya-san” is based on a comedy manga that chronicles everyday life of the staff working in a doujin shop, it promises to be a silly workplace comedy like “Working!!” or “Servant x Service”.

Another comedy that will definitely try is “Danna ga Nani wo Itteru ka Wakaranai Ken”, the anime adaptation of a four panel manga series about the daily life of a typical office lady who struggles to understand her otaku husband.

After seeing the promotional video for “Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji”, will definitely give this romantic comedy a try. While am not a fan of shoujo series, if the chemistry between the main pairing is done right, it could be a hilarious and entertaining comedy.

A light novel adaptation, “Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de” might turn out to be another typical fantasy anime with plenty of comedy and some harem traits not unlike “Outbreak Company”. The promo videos looked alright so will watch a few episodes to check out what the show is really like.

In terms of action or mecha oriented series, will of course watch the new “Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works” series and plan to give “Cross Ange” and “Gundam: G no Reconguista” a try. Following after last season’s rather epic mecha series “Aldnoah.Zero” is a tall order, hence do not expect that much from the new autumn season mecha series.

Although the overall animation style as well as the character and mecha designs from “Gundam: G no Reconguista” suggest it will be more like “Gundam Age” than other Gundam series like “Gundam Unicorn” or “Gundam 00”, will nonetheless give this new incarnation in the venerable franchise a try.

There’s been a lot of promotion and advertising for “Cross Ange”, while its plot premise seems to be a rather typical default mecha genre plot, will catch the first few episodes to decide if it’s worth following or not.

There’s multiple new anime adapted from eroge this season, and although have no high expectations of such series, do plan on watching a few episode of “Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai” and “Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete” to see if they’re worth picking up.

Based on its core premise, sounds like “Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai” might be a more light-hearted harem series and while its promotional video does hint at some drama, looks like it might be more of a harem romance and comedy type show.

“Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete” will probably be a more dramatic and serious series compared to “Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai”, but will try out a few episodes of it anyway. Another reason am curious about this series is that the promotional video suggests it might be all CGI style animation, which is unlike studio Feel’s previous work.

Although not exactly adapted from an eroge, the new “Girlfriend (Kari)” anime is based on a dating simulator game originally developed for Android and iOS based devices. The promotional poster for this anime by studio Silver Link does boast a very cute art style for the girls.

An anime original project by Studio 3Hz, “Sora no Method” looks quite promising based on its promotional video, seems like this could be an excellent heart-warming series with some drama and moving moments.

Even though watched most of the first season of “Hitsugi no Chaika”, ended up dropping the series near the end so will likely not watch the sequel “Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle”.

There are also several OVA which I plan to catch, such as the announced “Strike Witches Operation Victory Arrow”, “Suisei no Gargantia: Meguru Kouro, Haruka”, “Yuru Yuri Nachuyachumi!” and the “Seitokai Yakuindomo*” OVA.

What will you watch this autumn season?
