Another slice-of-life comedy show was looking forward to this new season is “Yuyushiki”, the anime adaptation of the “ゆゆ式” four panel manga by Komata Mikami.
In many aspects this series is quite similar to “Aiura” as it showcases the everyday life of three girls, their mindless chats and other silly shenanigans of their days spent in school.
Most episodes revolve around the girls’ frivolous conversations about random topics or how more serious Yui has to cope with the crazy antics of energetic Yuzuko and air headed Yukari. While this is nothing as grand as the thrilling plots and deep themes of shows like “Shinsekai Yori” or “Attack on Titan”, “Yuyushiki” simply isn’t about anything that serious.
This is one of those slice-of-life shows that is all about watching close friends enjoying everyday life as they let their minds wander with idle banter or acting silly all for laughs. That’s the type of show I really adore and “Yuyushiki” is no different, loved it right from the first episode on.
Animation by studio Kinema Citrus is quite good and can hold its own against works of bigger studios.Of course, as a slice-of-life comedy title that features less realistic and more plain character designs reminiscent of those in “Lucky Star” or “Hidamari Sketch”, “Yuyushiki” does not require rich, detailed animation like that seen in some other series like “Hyouka”.
While more plain and simple overall, the animation is still solid and helps make each episode an enjoyable experience for the viewer.
Cute Yui is voiced by Tsuda Minami, she previously voiced Yui in “Yuru Yuri”and Phryne in “Fractale”. Taneda Risa voices Yukari, she’s tackled roles like Saki in “Shinsekai Yori” and Kaoru in “Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru”. Troublemaker Yuzuko is voiced by Ookubo Rumi who also did Chinatsu in “Yuru Yuri” and Tsumiki in “Acchi Kocchi”.
The girls’ motherly teacher Yoriko is voiced by Horie Yui whose signature voice is very recognizable, she has voiced many characters like Millhiore in “Dog Days”, Naru in “Love Hina”, Tsubasa in “Bakemonogatari”, Anna in “Hourou Musuko”, Akane in “Kämpfer”, Raika in “Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai” and Ryuunosuke in “Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo”.
Cute Chiho is voiced by Kayano Ai who also voiced Mayaka in “Hyouka”, Muginami in “Rinne no Lagrange”, Inori in “Guilty Crown” and Mashiro in “Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo”.
Yet to appear in the anime are Kei and Fumi, they are respectively voiced by Han Megumi and Shimizu Mana.
Really adore this series, together with “Aiura” it offers a bright point in the anime watching week by offering a relaxing, fun time. Hence I do recommend “Yuyushiki” to everyone looking for a cute slice-of-life comedy show to watch.
