No doubt the show was looking forward to the most this season is “To Aru Kagaku No Railgun S”, sequel to the first anime adaptation of the “とある科学のレールガン” manga which itself is a spin-off story from the “To Aru Majutsu No Index” light novel series.
While I enjoyed both seasons of the “To Aru Majutsu No Index” anime, simply adored the “To Aru Kagaku No Railgun” spin-off that focuses on the adventures of Misaka Mikoto and her friends in Academy City.
According to articles spotted online this new season will cover the Sisters arc from the manga. Judging by the opening animation sequence -which is of course accompanied by an energetic track by fripSide- we’ll see new villains along with Misaki, Touma and Accelerator.
Studio JC Staff provides excellent animation with fluid action scenes and added care for facial close-ups, especially all the girls look irresistibly cute. With the same studio, director and character designer on board for this sequel luckily the animations style is identical to the first season.
Although Misaka is a terrific character, must confess have always had a soft spot for Saten Ruiko. Not only for Saten’s pseudo yuri shenanigans with Uiharu but also because her character has been well written, and even though she doesn’t have any psychic powers she is an essential cornerstone of the group like Kuroko or Uiharu.
To my joy all voice talents reprise their roles from the first season, especially the main cast of Misaka, Ruiko, Uiharu and Kuroko are very well voiced.
Satou Rina once more voices Misaka, she previously tackled roles like Haruka in “Minami-ke”, Kaoru in “Amagami SS” but also Negi in “Mahou Sensei Negima!”.
Ruiko is voiced by Kanae Itou who also voiced Eris in “Asobi ni iku yo!”, Ohana in “Hanasaku Iroha”, Sena in “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” as well as Haruka in this season’s “Photo Kano”.
Arai Satomi’s performance as Kuroko is sublime, a great example how an excellent voice talent can add a whole new dimension to a character. She also voiced Kozue in “Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~” and Hata in “Seitokai Yakuindomo”.
Uiharu is voiced by Toyasaki Aki who tackled roles like Yui in “K-ON!”, Chitose in “Yuru Yuri”, Yoshino in “Minami-ke” and Nako In “Hanasaku Iroha”.
Of course there’s many others lending like Ueda Kana who voices Mii, she voiced Rin in “Fate/stay night”, Yumi in “Maria-sama ga miteru” and Heidemarie in the “Strike Witches” movie.
Posh ojousama Mitsuko is voiced by Kotobuki Minako who previously voiced Tsumugi in “K-ON!”, Yuuko in “A-Channel” and voices Tokugawa Sen in this season’s “Hyakka Ryouran Samura Bride”.
Asakura Azumi voices Misaki, she also voiced Yukiho in “The IDOLM@STER”, Aisa in “High School DxD” and Kumin in “Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai”.
Am really excited about this show and after a terrific first episode can only hope it will be an epic sequel up to par with its terrific first season.
