Already in the first episode, studio Kyoto Animation showed they do not hesitate to include copious amounts of fanservice in “Musaigen no Phantom World”. While their other shows are not totally devoid of fanservice, this studio doesn’t particularly come to mind as a creator of fanservice focused anime.
If Mai’s shapely forms or Kurumi’s undeniable cuteness weren’t enough, after this week’s episode it is no longer possible to deny that the “Musaigen no Phantom World” anime is (heavy on) fanservice. No doubt intent to reel in viewers, who will flock to it like kittens drawn to catnip.
Obvious pun intended since this latest episode was a direct shot aimed at nekomimi aficionado’s, fans who cannot resist the allure of cat ears and tail on cute girls (or guys for that matter). Under the spell of a feline phantom, the characters start with mimicking cat mannerisms to sporting real cat ears and tail.
One could say that “Musaigen no Phantom World” may have attempted to depict what heaven would be like, because what else could be a world where cuties like Reina, Kurumi, Koito and Mai sport cat ears and tails but heaven?

Any rumors of me having explosive nosebleeds at the imagery of Reina in cat ears and tail or continuously replaying this episode are greatly exaggerated.
