Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Adapting the “この素晴らしい世界に祝福を!” light novels written by Akatsuki Natsume into anime form, “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!” is centered around an otaku finding himself transported into a fantasy realm, a setting that has been quite popular these past years.

Wondered if this show would be more comedy oriented like “Outbreak Company” and “Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka” or if it would have more serious undertones like “Log Horizon” and “Sword Art Online”.

Unfortunately, was not very impressed by the first few episodes of “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!”. While I would not necessarily label it as bad, most of its individual elements and the show as a whole are mediocre.

From the lackluster animation of barely passable quality by Studio Deen to the superficial, unlikable template characters, the grating dialogue as well as the uninspiring comedy, not much makes this anime good enough to watch it over other, simply better shows.

Am left to wonder what the original light novels are like, are they rather mediocre too or might “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!” be a case where the translation from the original medium into anime is poorly done or does this story simply not work that well in anime format?

Although I may still marathon watch “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!” someday after it aired, personally recommend watching this season’s “Hai to Gensou no Grimgar” fantasy anime instead, its first few episodes suggest it will excel in all aspects over “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!”.
