The new anime season is here! Looked over the line-up of new series scheduled to air this winter and there’s only a handful of shows am really sure about, the other series listed I am either merely curious enough about to give them a try, or they do not interest me one bit.

Hence, might not be picking up much new anime. Of course, will keep on watching “Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen” and “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” which started in fall and will continue this season.

Am definitely going to watch the second season of “Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite Kaku Tatakaeri”. Adored the first season of this military fantasy anime full of action and offered plenty of laughter. It also surprised me by occasionally bringing more depth to the story beneath its surface of military otaku meets dream harem of elves, loli goddesses and other fantasy beings.

Although am not a fan of shoujo genre series, will pick up the second season of “Akagami no Shirayuki-hime” considering I adored the first season. Do hope the show will stick to the formula and atmosphere of its first season, would be a shame if it succumbed to exaggerated melodrama.

Have not read the original manga, but am keen on watching “Dagashi Kashi” as the plot premise of this comedy sounds too good to pass up on. Am betting this will be one of the better anime this winter season.

Trying an anime merely because it is made by a specific studio is not really a solid approach that I would ever recommend. When that studio is Kyoto Animation though, and the promotional video looks interesting enough, it is hard for me not to give “Musaigen no Phantom World” a try. Am also betting on the story potentially being solid and feeling whole due to the fact it is based on a completed set of two novels.

Was pleasantly surprised by last season’s “Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru”, a solid mystery genre anime so am keen on trying “Boku Dake ga Inai Machi”. This story might have more fantasy elements due to the time travelling aspect, yet its promotional video suggests it could be a rather dark tale, full of suspense.

Wonder if visual novel adaptation “Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu” about a school boy getting pulled in to help create a bishoujo game will be anything like “Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata”? Will watch the first few episodes to see if it’s worth picking up.

The remaining anime mentioned below are all shows of which I am not certain that I will actually like them but am still curious about, so to sample a few episodes hoping that some of these series will be good enough to keep on watching.

A story about a wind ensemble club that’s threatened to be disbanded, “Haruchika: Haruta to Chika wa Sheishun Suru” might be a fun school comedy although it may be a tall order to follow close to last year’s stellar music anime “Hibike! Euphonium”. Though I think this show will be more comedy oriented.

There’s been plenty of anime these past few years about people being pulled into a fantasy world, wonder where “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!” will fit in although it looks like it may be rather comedy oriented, perhaps not unlike “Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka”?

Will give “Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm” a try as the promotional video suggests its science fiction gimmick of humans easily able to take flight, even having school clubs dedicated to such flying circus could lead to some gorgeous scenes and may work well in animated form.

“Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut” looks interesting but am somewhat apprehensive this show might be the same type of typical action harem anime we often see, not unlike last season’s “Gakuen Toshi Asterisk” or “Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry” which I both ended up dropping after several episodes.

Another fantasy show am intent on sampling is “Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation”, though considering I never played the game, wonder if the anime will really appeal to me.
Do have “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” as weekly dose of mecha action, yet I still might try “Schwarzesmarken”.

What do you plan on watching this season?
