Having started a few weeks later than most summer anime, “Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!” is the third season based on the magical girl comedy manga by Hiroyama Hiroshi which itself is a spin-off from Type Moon’s ‘Fate’ universe.
Adored the first two seasons of this magical girl anime that excels thanks to its abundance of comedy, ecchi shenanigans, hints of yuri and harem silliness, which are all thrown into the mix with the typical magical girl genre elements of cute girls, magic battles and overcoming insurmountable odds.
Based on what is shown in the opening animation sequence, it seems that “Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!” will focus on Miyu. Even if she does not end up being a pivotal character for the plot, we’re hopefully going to see some revelations about her background and past.
With the first season having been about Illya and her coming to terms with becoming a magical girl, the second season having focused on Kuro, it is good this season will be about Miyu. Especially considering they previously dropped hints about her past which suggest there is much we do not know about her yet.
While it is undoubtedly a deliberate tactic to cater to fans of those genres, do enjoy the yuri tinted scenes as well as the ecchi fanservice. Undoubtedly they work well because the show alternates between them and plenty of slice-of-life school girl cuteness, magical girl action and classic comedy.
They did go all out with some surprisingly ecchi scenes in the opening episode of “Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!”, though this did not entirely come as such a surprise as it a sure way to reel in viewers and create a buzz online.
Must admit that for me one of the highlights of this show is Kuro, her character livens up the scenes she’s featured in and Saitou Chiwa delivers a terrific performance voicing her. あ、クロエちゃんは可愛すぎて、エロっぽいも。
If you like magical girl anime and aren’t adverse to some ecchi content and silly comedy added in, then I do recommend “Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!”. You will need to watch the previous two seasons before starting this third one though.
