After it served me well over over five years, decided it was time for a change and replaced my Canon Eos 450D DSLR for the Sony A7 mirrorless camera (also known as Alpha 7 or ILCE-7).
While my Canon 450D still functioned properly, its limitations at low iso and occasionally unreliable autofocus warranted upgrading. Natural progression would be to purchase a new Canon camera body but their current line-up offered me limited choices, leaving only the 70D to consider for my requirements.
Researching online, came across several articles boasting the merits of Fujifilm and Sony’s current mirrorless system cameras and read several stories of photographers that switched from Canon or Nikon DSLR cameras over to Fujifilm or Sony.
A quick look revealed both brands offered various models priced just below and above the Canon 70D. Realized however such a switch would mean buying new lenses and having to sell my Canon lenses, so started reading a plethora of reviews and camera comparisons to decide if switching was really justified.

Much reading and debating later, had settled on the Fujifilm X-T1 among other candidates like the Fujifilm X-E2, the Sony A6000 and Sony A7. Although its full-frame sensor was appealing, had initially written off the Sony A7 due to its higher price tag, though rave reviews and excellent specifications made both the A7 and X-T1 desirable candidates.
When Sony announced the A7II as a direct successor of the A7 last week, this lead to a significant price drop of the A7 to an amount equaling the Fujifilm X-T1. Knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity so headed over to the camera store to get a good hands-on feel for both cameras.
Purchased the Sony A7 with the FE 55mm f/1.8 prime lens, the lure of its full-frame sensor was simply irresistible at that price. Although this meant investing quite an amount, saved a nice sum thanks to a Sony cashback action and recuperated even more after selling my Canon 450D camera and lenses.
Am very excited to start taking photos with this new camera!
