Another light novel adaptation airing this fall season is “Madan no Ou to Vanadis”, an action anime based on the “魔弾の王と戦姫” books written by Kawaguchi Tsukasa which feature plenty of typical fantasy and medieval warring.

Had initially not planned on watching this series, especially after being disappointed by the previous fantasy genre anime shows I tried such as “Blade & Soul”. Did try the first episode of “Madan no Ou to Vanadis” on a whim and have been following the series since.

Although “Madan no Ou to Vanadis” will likely not surprise viewers with unexpected plot twists, interesting, deep characters or thrilling events, but is a typical fantasy action show of which there are a dime a dozen, it has nonetheless proven to be sufficiently entertaining to make it an enjoyable watch.

The animation by studio Satelight is quite good, with little obvious flaws and sufficient care to animate the large battles well. Most regrettable fault could find is that the monsters and horses are not always drawn very well or realistically, which is shame for a fantasy show that showcases plenty of dragons and knights riding into battle.

If you’re looking for a run-of-the-mill yet entertaining fantasy anime with a few cute female warrior characters, then definitely give this show a try. You can watch “Madan no Ou to Vanadis” on Crunchyroll.
